A spa grows in Brooklyn! New African American Spa Review - Cynergy Spa!
Greetings!
Seems I've been neglecting my blog lately - much of it due to many other moving parts of my life that needed tending to. I'm Trying to become more consistent with writing and it's had it's challenges. Perhaps I needed the break.
Truth is, I had eye Surgery months ago and was forced to recover face down for 14 very long days .. 23 hours a day.
I had no desire to lay face down on a massage table. But Lucky for me my sorority had a spa day and I decided to
Participate! As a sisterly relations activity, we had the whole spa to ourselves! We had champagne and cupcakes, and mini sandwiches while we waited.
If you're looking for a spot to host a spa party, this is it! The staff andService were both excellent!
They accommodated 28 of us, with couples treatments - meaning there were two in a room at the same time. Ok so not the traditional male/female couples massage but I understand the need as we had the space from 4pm-9pm.
This time I am local - downtown Brooklyn at Cynergy Spa. This has become my quick " go-to" spa. While not cheap, its location in proximity to my job and the commuter rail I take home, offers a serene, quiet oasis for a very busy Fort Greene location.

I must confess, I went as part of a group special so this review is based upon policies that may have been in effect for the group and not if you attend individually.
The spa is quaint and located in a BrownStone and I had my reservations about the street noise ....particularly since I went to another African American owned spa not too far away (which has since closed) and it was so noisy I could hear the buses coming down the street.
To my surprise, there was no noise at all, primarily because the rooms, while in the back, the back of Brownsrone itself was facing the back of another property therefore not getting any of the side street noise, which have several buses passing by at any given time of the day.
I booked my massage in advance and had to day 1/2 upfront which I thought unusual. Then I realized the spa owners wanted to ensure they should someone cancel, the deposit they would at least keep. Hey this is a business I know.
Upon entering, I was greeted by a tiny cozy waiting area.
I opted for the 4pm spot since I was leaving work early for a doctor appointment and this was my pit stop before the doctor :)
After the customary paperwork that asks if you have any conditions, (and yes I've been to quite a few spas that no longer ask you to complete the questionnaire and I'm baffled by this) I was greeted by Champagne and finger food that I would almost guest did NOT come from the spa...Delish...
The spa has received a great rating and after a fabulous massage, I see why! I love ambience, but the true spa experience for me is to forget where I am and be transformed to somewhere else! I had a man give my massage ...Rob was all that! I know some women are not comfortable with a man giving you a massage (that you don't know!) but I tell you - it was pure heaven!
Below are some pics of the inside and outside of the spa... The room was daily spacious and had a rustic small feel, less of an industrial feel than a spa in the middle of midtown Manhattan. It was cozy..and romantic.
I dare say I had such a great time I missed my doctor appointment hanging out the remainder of the evening! I also had the opportunity to meet the owner as she greeted us later that evening ( too bad I can't remember her name it took me so long to write this post..) There were 28 Sorority members who have services completed. Some members had facials, massages, or a combination of services.
A great evening was had by all! Some things I learned :
1. Call the spa directly if you are interested in spa parties. http://www.cynergyspa.com/about.php has rates available for a variety of different size parties and some with champagne and other goodies! There is generally a required minimum number of guests needed for the spa package price.I considered having my birthday there with at least 4 of my good friends. The prices aren't really discounted per se it's more about having the spa to yourself for a select period of time and the private pampering !
2. Make sure to know the group policies and pass them on to all of those who attend in your group. Is there a cancellation policy? Are there deposits that are required? Are all spa services available? Often not all spa services are available.
3. Can/will they provide food?
4. Tip well! I cannot tell you how many complaints I get in a variety of industries that may just don't tip well. The standard tip for spa services is 20% of the original price.
Until next time! Ciao!
