Greetings!
So spa week is officially over...and I do have a review of a new spa I went to..but that will have to wait :) This post is an ode to Oprah ..and her new show Life Class. I mentioned before I am not necessarily a fan - but I just had an ah-ha moment watching this show for the first time and thought I'd share...
Beauty... What it means ..how we women (yes this post is for us women) deal with it (as well as it when it diminishes) is so connected to almost everything we do. (ok for those who don't agree..then you can skip this post..count yourself amoung the lucky ones!) And guess what? Even the title of my blog speaks to how some of us see ourselves... We are in a society that promotes youth and beauty and when we don't fit that image ( whether we are born with it or buy it) our stress levels can increase. It places a value on those things that are transient and temporary.
I got to thinking Spa-ing and pampering is a wonderful thing .. but deciding who we are and being HAPPY with who and what we see in the mirror is most important. There are spas that I haven't written about (yet) that women run to for Botox treatments, Collagen injections and almost anything to make us look younger. Some people will use these services as a means of being in denial about something within them. Just turn on the " Real Housewives of.." whatever.
While I've been blessed not to look my age, I still have a fear of aging. Trust me..I do.
My ah-ha moment came tonight when I realized I've never really defined myself as beautiful and never connected how I look ( ok...save for my eyes..lol) to my core being. I've always known I'm much more. So why do I fear aging? Perhaps I need the next Life Class to answer that.(y'all didn't really think you'd get an answer here?? Ha! )
Spa-ing and pampering should not become the means by which you try and forgot who you are.(well ok temporarily...)
What I am sure of is that spa-ing and pampering is a wonderful escape that can ease the stress of everyday life but we must do the work to become comfortable with who we are.
Tell me... Do you use spa-ing and pampering to take the place of the work you need to do internally? Or is your spa the way to retreat from the world for much needed "me" time?
Please share your thoughts..subscribe and tell a friend!
Back to regular programming next time!
Ciao!
